DESIGNING FOR SOCIAL GOOD

Flourish Design Studio creates and transforms indoor and outdoor community, civic and shared spaces through a combination of professional design, authentic co-design and creative participation. We design with communities, not simply for them. We believe good design is about more than how a place looks. It is about how it feels, how it works and whether the people who use it feel welcomed, represented and that they belong. We see the places where everyday life happens - both inside and out - as part of our social infrastructure: spaces where people meet, learn, create, work, relax, access support, spend time and build relationships. That is how Flourish environments transform and shape communities.

OUR CO-DESIGN APPROACH

Our approach is different because the designers creating the space lead the community engagement themselves. They meet residents, listen to their experiences, run co-design sessions and hear first-hand what people want and need. Those same designers then translate this insight into the design and develop it collaboratively with the community.

There is no disconnect between consultation and design.

The people listening are the people creating.

Our process moves from insight and discovery, through design development and collaborative delivery, to reflection and evaluation.

FROM DESIGN TO CREATIVE LEGACY

Our involvement does not end once a design has been approved.

The Flourish team remains involved through making, delivery and installation, before returning to the spaces we create to run arts and crafts workshops, collective making projects and creative programmes - with the same people who helped shape the space.

For us, this is how creative legacy is built.
